it will be a exploratory laparotomy (sp?) basically they are going to cut vertically down my stomach, take out the tumor, my appendix, stomach flap, and possibly my left ovary, though I am praying that isn't necessary. I should be in the hospital several days. I will let you know I am ok when I get home.

Just got home today. Surgery went just as well as we could expect. I did have some bad anemia and required a blood transfusion and also my left ovary was completely dead so they did remove it. The tumor was 11 pounds and the size of a basketball! I am so thankful to be well and not in any great pain. I can tell lots of prayers went up to make this as easy as possible. Thank you!

I have some bad news. The doctor called and said I am going to need to have a total hysterectomy. the pathology report came back and I am to see the oncologist tomorrow at 1. This pretty much sounds like I have cancer. I am holding up pretty well aside from the fact I will never have kids. Please pray for my family and for a good outcome. Hopefully they caught it in time. I honestly feel a lot of peace almost like I knew I had cancer all along, but maybe it just hasn't sunk in yet. I have never trusted God more deeply. I KNOW with all my heart that he has me in the palm of his hand and whatever happens will be for his glory. My family is having a hard time though me only 29 and their baby.

Let us know what the doctor says. Praying for you, and thanking God for His beautiful grace.

I have stage 1C uterine-ovarian cancer which spread to my appendix (which was removed at last surgery)the plan is I will have surgery Thursday the 29th for a complete hysterectomy. They will have to use the same incision and open me up because they are also going to remove lymph nodes that are under my heart. Good news is a biopsy was done on my colon and stomach and no cancer there. The lymph nodes they already removed are benign. They say I will most likely need chemo sometime after surgery. We won't know a lot more until after surgery when they test the lymph nodes.

Oh Wendy, I don't know what to say. I feel so bad that you have to go through this. I pray that God's presence will be strong in your life and that you will be comforted in an amazing way. I pray also that God would use this to bring others to Himself so that He may get the glory.

((((hugs!!))))

I have done some research and I have talked to experts and they explained a few things. There is a thing called grading on a scale of 1-4, which is how much the organ and cells look like normal cells and my worst cancer (left ovarian tumor) was a 2. the lower your number the more slowly they believe it will spread and the higher the survival rate and lack of reoccurance. this is not to be confused with staging. I was told 1C but that is only the ovarian cancer and we may be dealing with dual primary which means the ovarian and uterine cancer developed seperately on their own and are individually stage 1 each. the chances are if it spread it spread from the ovary instead of the uterus, but they just don't know. There are two ways cancer spreads. Shed, which is the cells breaking apart and logging on another organ, or through the lymphatic system. Since the lymph nodes they tested so far are benign and my pathology report states that the left ovarian tumor's capsule was not intact the chances are that is where it is spreading from as far as the appendix is concerned at least. It was so big it could have been touching the appendix. It is like playing detective and the last bit of the puzzle will be what they find during surgery when they remove and test the remaining lymph nodes and they may be able to tell where it started but sometimes that isn't a possibility. Sorry writing a book but the way I am coping is loading myself with information and being educated. Even if they don't find cancer in the lymph nodes it is in my best interest to undergo chemo. Chemo is like an insurance policy. I found out the hard way that doctors don't always see cancer or they would have done the hysterectomy the first time. Chemo kills cancer, radiation slows things down. Radiation is a remote possibility but I will definitely have some chemo, won't know how much til after surgery. I don't know about you but it seems the more you learn the more questions you have.

wendy-

I am praying for you and those you love. In these cases the Scriptures remind me, that I don't know the right things to ask for that's why God's Spirit does a better job than I. I know to be thankful for you and all that you've shared as you have been going through this. I know that God IS a God of comfort, so I will pray for your comfort through this affliction and tribulation. This household at RWF will await what next you might share. I recently read and posted an article on Epaphroditus. He was not well either, but what he did have was the ability to be a helper. You have been a helper.

Got official pathology back. Stage 1A endometrial cancer and stage 1C ovarian cancer. Still a question mark associated with the appendix (did I have an original cancer there or did it spread from the ovary?) Don't know for sure when Chemo starts. I do have an infection in my incision that they are treating with antibiotics and I see the doctor again on Tuesday. Basically the attitude is all the cancer is gone surgically. Now we are being aggressive in our fight kind of just to make sure with the chemo.
